Eli represents air carriers and other corporate clients in a wide range of complex aviation matters including mass air disasters, wrongful death and personal injury, product liability, cargo damage and loss, breach of contract, regulatory compliance and enforcement, and employment law issues. His regulatory compliance work experience includes assisting international air carriers with the expansion of their operating authority, maintaining up-to-date federal regulatory compliance, and ensuring operations meet an airline’s regulatory expectations and core business goals.
Eli has also represented international air carriers in regulatory enforcement actions before the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Transportation Security Agency (TSA), and Customs and Border Protection. These matters included immigration, cross-border contraband of narcotics and other illegal material, security personnel issues, and cargo operations. Eli has successfully obtained full and partial mitigation of penalties; often avoiding the assessment of penalties altogether for clients.
By leveraging his practical knowledge of federal regulation enforcement procedures, Eli assists clients in not only obtaining positive results post-incident but is also proactive in the implementation of procedures to prevent recurrence.
As a seasoned commercial litigator, Eli represents domestic and foreign clients in securing favorable outcomes across many highly regulated sectors, such as the cybersecurity, banking, construction, and investment industries. Eli has also litigated cases involving trade secret and intellectual property infringement, employment law violations, international business deals, bank and financial fraud, and real estate disputes. This experience enables Eli not only to resolve active disputes or avoid litigation entirely, but also to deliver cost-effective results for the firm’s clients.
Eli has been consistently recognized each year as a Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in the field of Aviation & Aerospace for the New York Metro Area.
Prior to joining the firm, he worked as an Assistant Corporation Counsel at the New York City Law Department in the Special State Law Enforcement Defense Unit, where he handled a large caseload of civil rights cases from pleadings to trial, including having taken some to verdict. Eli also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Raymond J. Dearie of the Eastern District of New York.
Eli earned his J.D. from the Emory University School of Law, where he served as a Notes and Comments Editor for the Emory International Law Journal. During his tenure, he published an article focusing on the establishment of international safeguards within the mining industry. His clinical work experience includes preparing an environmental lawsuit for the D.C. Court of Appeals. Eli also honorably placed second at the inaugural Clara Barton International Humanitarian Law Competition.
