William de Wolff

William’s practice encompasses all areas of civil and commercial litigation on behalf of the firm’s aviation clients.

William assists the firm’s aviation and aerospace clients and their insurers in civil litigation, advisory, and regulatory matters. He represents air carriers and other aerospace industry companies worldwide in cases involving personal injury, wrongful death, and breach of contract. His recent trial work includes having served as a member of the trial team and appearing at trial for an air carrier litigating claims under the Montreal Convention arising from a passenger who suffered a stroke during an international flight.

Prior to joining the firm, William clerked for the Honorable James E. d’Auguste of the New York State Supreme Court, where he led discovery, motion, pre-trial, and settlement conferences on behalf of the court. His case load included the 2018 East River helicopter crash, Cadigan v. Liberty Helicopters, Inc. et al., mass-torts and catastrophic torts, complex commercial matters, and qui tam actions pursuant to the New York False Claims Act.  While serving as a Law Clerk, he received Part 146-approved ADR training in Commercial Mediation and Advanced Commercial Mediation.

He also served as a Legal Intern for the Honorable John J. Kelley of the New York State Supreme Court; as well as interned for the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Office of the Chairman, Oversight and Investigations in Washington, D.C.

William is a graduate of Fordham University School of Law, where he served as a Notes and Articles Editor for the Fordham Journal of Corporate and Financial Law. He is a recipient of the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award, with over 500 hours dedicated to pro-bono and public-interest legal service. During law school, William studied aviation law with Professor Stephen J. Fearon, a former long-time partner of the firm. Prior to law school, William worked in business aviation with a New York City-based charter brokerage.

As an active member of the aviation law community, William is a member of the ABA – Forum on Air and Space Law and TIPS Practice Sections, the New York City Bar – Air and Space Law Committee, the National Business Aviation Association, Vertical Aviation International, and the Experimental Aircraft Association. William is proficient in French and is studying Arabic.
