Zachary  D. Groendyk

Zach’s practice encompasses all aspects of aviation and commercial litigation.

Zach counsels foreign and domestic air carriers on compliance with federal regulations, responding to administrative proceedings and enforcement actions, and evaluating commercial transactions. He also provides advice to the firm’s clients on regulatory and compliance matters involving the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

With experience litigating claims governed by the Warsaw Convention, Montreal Convention, other international treaties and U.S. aviation statutes, Zach’s practice also includes representing air carriers and other aviation entities in state and federal court in connection with commercial disputes, personal injury, wrongful death, torts, breach of contract actions, aircraft damage, and regulatory enforcement. Zach has significant experience with NTSB investigation procedures and with the Aviation Disaster Family Assistance Act and has advised air carriers on how to prepare for and what to expect during an NTSB investigation.

Zach has been recognized as Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in Aviation & Aerospace for the New York Metro Area (2021-2023).

Zach is a graduate of Fordham Law School, where he served as an executive editor and competitor on the Moot Court Board and worked on the staff of the Urban Law Journal.  Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a judicial intern for Judge Richard J. Sullivan of the Southern District of New York and Justice Alexander W. Hunter of the New York State Supreme Court, and as an intern in the Affirmative Litigation Division of the New York City Law Department.  He received the Archibald R. Murray award for public service from Fordham and authored an article entitled: “It Takes A Lot to Get Into Bellevue: A Pro-Rights Critique of New York’s Involuntary Commitment Law,” 40 Fordham Urb. L.J. 549 (2012).

Zach is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York (Member and Secretary, Aeronautical Committee), the American Bar Association (Member, Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section) and the Federal Bar Council.
