Stuart E. Berelson

Stuart Berelson’s years of practicing tax law, added to his own success as a real estate investor and developer, give him practical and personal insight into the challenges his clients face daily.

Real estate clients seek his counsel because they know he has an insider’s understanding of their business and extensive experience in coming up with creative and effective solutions.

After graduation from NYU School of Law, he served two years in Germany as a military Police officer in the U.S. Army.  Stuart began his law practice following military service, focusing in Taxation while receiving an LLM in taxation from NYU School of Law. He later broadened his practice to include all aspects of real estate law as well. He represents a wide range of clients in all aspects of commercial and residential real estate and construction, with a strong background in the condominium and cooperative market. He deals with the NYS Attorney General’s office for his clients as well as for other lawyers who refer clients to him. He drafts all kinds of agreements pertaining to the building, renovation and conversion, operation, and divestiture of condominiums as well as other real estate developments, always with an eye towards tax-advantaged structures. Stuart has also negotiated leases and arranged many transactions in the hospitality industry for hotels and restaurants.

Additionally, Stuart’s extensive knowledge of tax law has helped him develop a significant practice in Wealth Management. He has many long-standing clients for whom he leverages his knowledge to maximize the values of their assets over the long run for both estates and trusts.

Stuart has been active on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater Bucknell University for many years. He is the former Chairman of their Risk Management and Legal Affairs committees, which he founded. A member of the National Committee on Annual Giving and a former Director of the Alumni Association, he was awarded the Loyalty to Bucknell Award by the Bucknell Alumni Association. He was recently recognized as a Trustee Emeritus for his years of service to the institution which he continues to serve. The Berelson Center for Jewish Life at Bucknell, as well as several other projects were originally envisioned and made possible by Stuart’s generous contributions and fundraising efforts. He was recognized last year as a founding member of the Swimming and Diving team.
